Stirling Council has submitted a planning application to construct a road through the Viewforth site (known as the Viewforth Link Road) between the St Ninian’s Road junction with Snowdon Place and the Linden Avenue roundabout. The planning application reference is 19/00037/FUL and the associated documents also include visuals of how the road will look.
The link road will complete the Council’s long held ambition to create an inner city ring road and reduce unnecessary traffic in the city centre, which is key to supporting the Council’s growth targets and potential for improving the city centre. It is the first step in a wide ranging programme of improvements south of the city centre, outlined to members and the public in November as Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling - City Centre South. The information on City Centre South is available again on the Council website.
We have secured funding from Sustrans to support the design of the walking and cycling infrastructure on the new link road and will be work to secure construction funding to deliver these elements. In the new financial year, subject to planning permission, we will submit a bid for Community Links funding to work closely with the communities, Elected Members and other stakeholders to masterplan the wider placemaking proposals for the City Centre South.
